some random 4.12 coda (ianmickey - 1112 words - ao3)

Mickey stood in the doorway of his bedroom, leaning against the cold metal of the door hinge, and tried not to cry.

(Mickey wasn’t supposed to cry. He wasn’t supposed to do a lot of things, but then Ian crashed his way…

Quick “Gif Size” Tutorial

tentooine answered: my gifs are always way to big and I’m not sure why? then when I make it small enough it looks like crap, maybe a tut on how not to have that?

A quick little tutorial on gif sizing, and getting them under the limit. This is a good companion to my All Encompassing Gif Tutorial, which only touched on these ideas. So here are the basics on tumblr gif size limits:

- 500px wide gifs can be no larger than 1mb.
- 245px wide (or smaller) gifs can be no larger than 2mb.

Bigger gifs face issues with being under the size limit, and keeping good quality while staying under said limit. There is almost never an issue with file size on smaller gifs (mb wise), because you can fit so many frames in without too much worry, but when you’re resizing a gif, you do have to worry about quality.

Anonymous: "sorry for bothering you :( but i don't understand? do you convert the gif to a smart file then do duplicate the layer and fade to 40% then sharpen etc... ? sorry for disturbing you and thanks in advance <3"

hello, cupcake. you’re not bothering me AT ALL :) Yes, you’re right. You select all the gif layers, and then you convert it to timeline animation. After that, you go to filter > convert for smart files. And then all the gif it will be in one layer. Duplicate the layer, go to sharpen > smart sharpen (amount 500 / radius 0,3 / more accurate) and low the opacityto 50%. <3

Creative Market : Free Gods of the Week / Spoon Graphics / Font Fabric / Lost and Taken / Dribble / Pixeden / Lost Type Co-Op / Freebiesbug / Codrops Tutorials

Because everyone loves free things, here’s another quick resources post. There are another handful of sites out there but these are the ones I check out most often.

My favourite is the weekly offers from Creative Market. Sometimes you come across goodies you wouldn’t have otherwise downloaded. But act quick because they change/rotate every 7 days! A few people asked about subtle seamless backgrounds, and Pixeden has some of my favourites. Freebiesbug is actually more of a collective site (to make browsing easier) but has the occasional exclusives. And I’m sure every theme maker has already heard of Codrops but they deserve a huge mention.
